My Story

What?

Following the tragic loss of a friend, I'm raising funds to support Hollie Guard, a personal safety mobile app.

I'm running 5 marathons in 5 days, starting in London, then through the north east of England, finishing in York.

Why?

What happened to our friend left many of us feeling helpless - helpless to stay safe, and helpless to protect the people we care for.

Hollie Guard tries to address this by sending alerts when things seem to be going wrong, through a series of features including:

  • Journey monitoring, to make sure you reach your destination, and alert your emergency contacts if you don't
  • Manually triggered alerts to your contacts/emergency services when you need more help
  • Video and audio recording at the push of a button

It's free to use, with the running costs partly supported through donations.

Where and when?

The route encompasses several places that hold special memories, including a memorial to my friend and our university college, where we first met.

Day one starts on the 27th August in Brockwell Park, South London, and finishes at King's Cross.

The second day will start at St Cuthbert's Society in Durham, and by the end of day five - after running a marathon a day - I'll be in York.

The full route is as follows:

  • 27th August: Brockwell Park to Kings Cross. Leaving Brockwell Park at 8.30am
  • 28th August: Durham to Yarm
  • 29th August: Yarm to Thirsk
  • 30th August: Thirsk to Harrogate
  • 31st August: Harrogate to York

How to get involved

Donate

My main goal is to raise funds to support Hollie Guard, which for most users is free to use and is supported through fundraising. Donations go towards helping with the development and running costs, and are also used to give higher risk users free access to extra support.

If you think the Hollie Guard app could help you, or someone you know, feel safer then download the app. It's free to use, and has the option of extra support for a monthly fee.
